On 9th March 2021, we lost our beloved Carlie at the age of 22 when he decided to take his own life. None of us will ever be able to truly know why our beloved son, brother, soulmate decided that this was the only option open to him to stop the severe mental pain and sadness he must have been going through every day. We are the ones left behind, now also experiencing great sadness every day when we look for Carlie but he is not there.
Horribly, we are not alone in what we have gone through. 5,219 people in the UK in 2021 decided to take their own lives and suicide is the leading cause of death for men aged between 20-34 years old. We are in the midst of a mental health crisis and whilst we cannot bring Carlie back, as a family and a Charity we can fight back against this disease to stop more people taking the same path that Carlie took on 9th March 2021.
We also want to celebrate Carlie’s life, whilst it was far too short (the flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long). Carlie burned so very bright and we want to pay tribute to his life and help those that are pursuing similar passions.
Our Aims
We are dedicated to:
• Promoting positive mental health.
• Advancing the education of people with dyslexia.
• Promoting participation in arts and culture for those who may not have the opportunities available to them.
Trust Activities
We have supported and will continue to support several charities and activities in the prevention of suicide: safe spaces, telephone support centres, and centres of music to provide support and opportunities for young people. These include: Papyrus, James’ Place, TIC Plus, and Music Works.
We are also financing an annual film project for 5 years for a student’s first piece of work post-graduation from the Central Film School, a school where Carlie spent many happy hours learning the art of film. The inaugural winner was announced at the British Film Institute, Southbank, London, on 6th December 2023.
We are constantly reviewing opportunities and ideas to make a difference to young people who feel so desperate as to consider Carlie’s path.
We are determined to make a difference.
